MARK YOUR KOLLENDER OCTOBER 2011

MARK YOUR KOLLENDER OCTOBER 2011

Hello Electronic Mailing List,

From all of us here at www.alexkoll.com to all of you at home in front of your computer (or on the toilet with your smart phone), let me wish you a happy and healthy October.  Hope it’s going well and you are having minimal problems with your fall harvest or/or any poison candy production.

LET’S TALK BUSINESS...

Friday October 21st is The Business LA @ Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.
IT’S THE LAST BIZ LA OF 2011!!!!!

Check out the promo video featuring Chris “Hott Soxx” Garcia:

Hey LA!  We've had fun playing in your sandbox this year. However with Santa/the Great Pumpkin/some turkeys coming our way in the next few months, we won't see you guys again for a while. So our October Business LA show is going to be a big send off for 2011! Bring all your friends and relatives and let's celebrate every holiday at once!  Cakes encouraged!  Pies encouraged!  Jello Salads tolerated!

All the regular Businessmen will be in attendance this time around.  What?  All four?  Yes!  Bucky and Sean and Chris and Alex will all be on hand, as well as our special guests Brendon Walsh and Beth Stelling! We'll have some special surprises and as always the Medically Transported Mission Style Burrito Raffle will reward some lucky audience member with a mouthwatering hint of possible food poisoning.

Tickets are $8 online (no service charge!) and $10 at the door. I think you know what to do.

MONEY FOR NOTHING (AND/OR A LIVE BEAR)

If you’re like me, you like your funny to be a little dark and a little weird.  Or maybe a lot dark and a lot weird.  That’s why I love my good buddies Dan Abbot and Corbett Redford, who collectively comprise the dark and weird and funny musical group Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits.  I’ve known Corb and Dan for some time, I even did a guest sketch on their most recent album, and they did one on mine.

Now I am helping them by directing a music video for a song of that album: “F” on Silver Sprocket records.  We have come up with an extremely ambitions idea and are working to pull together everything we have to make it happen.  Therefore, we have set up a funding site on IndieGoGo.com to help pay for the price of making weird dreams real.  As the boys put it:

“...Would you like to see a baseball team fight a motorcycle gang? Ever wonder what it would be like if the military assaulted your picnic? Want to see a bear maul someone? Well, then... help us make an epic video for our song, 'Life Is Excellent'! Only 40 days to go on our quest for donations! Please consider donating anything you can and repost this link so others can become involved! So many cool gifts to be had! Follow the link and check it out!”

It’s the first music video I’m attempting and the biggest production I’ve helmed to date.  So please take a moment to follow the link, watch the short video and consider donating something, even if it’s a small something to our lost cause.  Thanks!

FIRST PLACE LOSER

...And if I may toot my own horn for a moment: I am now the 2nd place winner of the 2011 San Francisco International Comedy Competition.  It was a close, dramatic, month-long competition, but I survived many a comedy obstacle to arrive at “runner-up”. Second is nothing to sneeze at, as I now share the same honor as past second-placers such as Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Pollak, Marc Maron and Dane Cook.  And then there is this (from the SFICC Website):

“Alex Koll accomplished something that hasn’t been done since Sinbad took the crown in 1985. He advanced despite only performing in four of the five shows that comprised preliminary round one.”

You heard it here first: I’m the new Sinbad.  Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Thanks for reading everybody.  Some new road dates are in the works for the next few months and for the new year. So keep an eye on the inbox for future updates and I’ll talk at you real soon.

Arrivederci, dorks!
Sincerely,

P.S.
